These amazing dogs are referred to by various names such as Livestock Guard Dogs, Livestock Protection Dogs and Livestock Guardian Dogs. They are most frequently referred to as LGD for the shortened version. Not just any dog is capable of being a livestock guardian dog as there are only a limited number of breeds that are in this reserved classification of dog. They are loyal to their charges and have been known to lay down their lives to protect them.
When I was 12 years old living on a small hobby farm, we started having problems with predators... coyotes, weasels, etc. I saved my money and bought my very first LGD, a sweet 8 week old AKC Great Pyrenees named Shiloh. Over the next several years I added a few more Pyrenees, and later, our first Anatolian cross. Around 2008, 2009, I added my first Akbash and Akbash cross, and in 2016, my first AKC Anatolian. In 2008, we moved from my home with my husband just outside Deer Park, to our current farm, a 120 acre haven that we purchased from Hubby's parents. Since that first LGD over 30 years ago, I've not ever wanted any other breed types. Livestock Guardians have my heart. They watch our home and children, they assist at birth, protecting moms and cleaning up afterbirth. They protect all of our livestock and poultry, working hard all day long, year round, keeping everything safe, from cougars, wolves, coyotes, bears and smaller predators too, as well as aerial predators.
We raise our dogs in the same way we manage the rest of the farm, with a focus on holistic care and natural rearing. I am constantly growing and learning in the way we care for all our stock, and the dogs are no exception. Whelping is done as hands off as possible, puppies are born out with the stock, living and breathing their life purpose from the moment they arrive. They are handled often by humans and naturally socialized by all our children, their friends, and the regular visitors we have to the farm.
We feed our livestock guardian dogs a combination of what’s available at the time. Kibble is available as a buffet, twice a day, but meat, eggs, raw milk, some veggies and grains are also frequently available as we are able to provide. My goal is to move to a primarily homemade diet, but I feel it is wise to keep them exposed to kibble as well to aid in transition to new homes.
And now, I introduce you to the crew that keeps our farm safe. If you’re interested in learning about our livestock guardian puppies for sale, head on over to our for sale page and be sure to check out the essential reading at LGD Buying Info.

Hosanna Farm Boaz
Male
AKC Anatolian, WS77827702
DOB:04/22/2022
Sire: Light Horse Bohdi
Dam: Royal Sweet Bourbon
Boaz joined our farm spring of 2023. He has a hard act to follow, coming on the heels of Kowach as our next Male guardian. He is a big strong build, with strong feet and legs, and a lovely head.
He has integrated onto our farm so well. He is sound with the poultry and Livestock, mellow and sweet with our kids, and accepting of farm visitors. He displays excellent guardian tendencies, stays close to his goats and respects fences well. He has an all around very sound and mellow temperament that we really appreciate, and that we are seeing passing along to his offspring.
He came from solid, health and OFA tested genetics, and has also tested well himself, genetically and rated 'Good' for both hips and elbows with OFA.
SFF Diva
Female
AKC Anatolian, WS77974505
DOB:08/14/2022
Sire: Sweet Magnolia's Rhett Charmer
Dam: Southern Rebel's Farm Virus
We welcomed Diva to our farm Spring of 2022. We were having Boaz transported here from back East, and decided there was no time like the present to bring in some other genetics. Diva is a lovely, with a very smooth coat, and athletic build. She has been a delight here on our farm, and absolutely adores our kids, having an especially close bond to Josh. She also comes from good solid health tested genetics. Her genetic testing was all good, and we're planning OFA certification soon.
Maddie
Female
Anatolian Shepherd
DOB: 09/30/2021
Maddie joined us here on our farm in April of 2023. She settled right in other than having some fear and anxiety about thunder storms, but she is doing much better with that now, too. She is the sweetest thing, and good and reliable with all of the different species of animals, and with the kids. She's ultra loving with all of our family members. She loves to work, and steadily follows the goat herd all over our 120 acres, keeping them safe. She's very devoted. We love her to pieces, and are so Blessed to have her as part of our working team. She is not AKC, she has had basic genetic health testing and tested all clear.
Sunshine
Anatolian/Akbash
DOB: 06/16/2015
Sire: Ozen
Dam: Gabby
Born on our farm and raised with livestock from day one, Sunshine is a big, solid girl. Calm and good with farm visitors, she loves children especially. She is solidly bonded to the goats, and takes her turns following them out to browse, even as she ages. She is retired from our breeding program, but still 'on staff' for puppy training and as backup to our younger working crew. She is the Matriarch, and keeps everyone else in their place.
Bella
Anatolian/Akbash
DOB:02/02/2022
Dam: Skye
Sire: Mack
Bella is a granddaughter to our Sunshine and Kowach, with some of Ozens genetics on Mom's side as well. We were excited to get her from our friend April! So many of our own known and appreciated genetics in this sweet girl. Bella is well built and athletic, and while she doesn't bark for no reason, she has a very formidable bark. She is an easy middle of the pack temperament. She is a watcher, who appraises each situation for a brief moment, before deciding what to do next. Utterly devotes to the goats, She is never far from the herd. Solid from day one with everybody, from poultry to goats to kitties and other dogs, she is as steady as the day, intuitively doing exactly as she should, every single time. I have not had a single moment of regret since bringing her to our farm. Excited to see what her genetics bring in the future, she sure is a great working dog!
Angels Kowach
Honorary mention
AKC Anatolian WS52506203
Dam: Luci
Sire: Diamond Acres Cisco Khan
Kowach was our Love. A blessing from the farm of some dear friends, he made innumerable contributions to our farm, with both his genetics and his amazing personality. He improved every single dog to which he was ever bred, his puppies have consistently born his size, head, build and work ethic. He both made and sold a lot of puppies, when people could not take him home they all wanted the next best thing. A solid guardian even on 3 legs (having lost one in an accident as a 10 month old pup), he never gave you the choice to not pause for a moment to give him a pet or belly rub. Almost every single person to ever visit our farm has known and loved this big sweet lug. He is so very missed.
AND NOW....
WHAT EVERYONE'S BEEN WAITING FOR....
PUPPIES!!!
We periodically have puppies for sale. Our puppies are released to their new farm assignments at 12 weeks of age. Until then they are born and raised in our goat pens, being exposed to a various array of other farm animals and poultry, and being socialized by all our kiddos, while also being mentored by their parents and our other LGDs. We delay their leaving our farm any sooner than 12 weeks because we believe that LGDs in particular, and honestly most dogs, learn a lot of important skills, social and otherwise, from their parents and siblings during that 8 to 12 week old period (bite inhibition, for instance). Each litter also receives ENS (Early Nuerological Stimulation) from days 3 through 14.
Our puppies are placed based on preferred gender and your specific needs. We evaluate their personalities/temperaments, strengths and weaknesses, especially as they age and start showing guarding inclinations with the adults, and help select the best fit for you and your farms needs, before placing them in homes. We are committed to helping our puppies and their buyers be as successful and as blessed as we have been with our dogs so we offer lifetime breeder support to help with issues that may arise especially as the pup grows and learns his job. We have several different guardian options, depending on what your needs are, so be sure to reach out so we can help you decide the best fit for YOU. Please read our LGD Buyer information page and our LGD SALES agreement page if you are planning to buy a puppy from us.
Check our For Sale page to see who we have currently available, or contact us directly be placed on a waiting list for our next litter.
