Julie's journey with Dairy goats began 30+ years ago, with a grade Alpine/Nubian doe named Memphis Belle, followed pretty immediately with the addition of what has always been Julie's favorite breed, LaManchas. With many of the same bloodlines she started with all those years ago, goats have always been a part of Julie's life, and our farming life together. While we're not as active in the show ring as Julie used to be, the goats are still a big part of life here on the farm. Currently we raise ADGA registered LaManachas, Sables and a lot of Recorded Grades. Julie loves the hybrid vigor that comes with combining the gene pool of more than one breed. Our focus
for many years has been to keep a completely Holistic approach, as organically as possible, both in our herd maintenance and our breeding program. We breed and cull heavily to achieve animals that are lovely to behold, but also show natural disease resistance and parasite resistance, while simultaneously showing a strong ability to fill a milk pail well. We utilize herbs, homeopathics and good diet for health and medicine, as well as maintenance for things like parasite control. Our herd is tested annually for CAE, and we have consistently had negative results for the whole herd. Our kids are usually dam raised (we do supplement occasionally under certain circumstances, such as triplet births), we feel it follows a natural progression, and that we get nice growthy kids. We typically do bi-annual linear appraisal of our adult herd, which helps us to keep the motion of our breeding program focused and moving in what we believe to be the right direction. While our herd has been mostly closed, we do enjoy occasionally bringing in new bucks from farms such as Lucky Star, Rockin CB, Trinity Valley Ranch and Ober-D-Rainbow. We have a deep appreciation for the strengths these bucks add to our herd.
Our herds main purpose here on our farm besides bringing us a lot of joy and helping substantially to keep brush under control, is food. Our whole family enjoys the many products we get from our herd in terms of milk, kefir, cheeses, etc, as well as meat for our table from wethers and cull animals, and also soap! We do sell a limited number of kids, milkers and occasional bucks, each year. Contact us directly or visit our For Sale page to find out what we have available or to get on a waiting list.
